Working as a writer, my goals are quite simple. Above all, whether you read it, see or hear it performed, I want you to be stimulated by what I write, moved to laughter, tears, thought, even anger. A Nuclear Refrain, a cross-cutting work of analytical fiction on the subjects of Trident replacment and deterrence, is published by Punctum Book in 2020. Taking the form of a novella modelled on Dickens' A Christmas Carol, A Nuclear Refrain is written with inspiring friends and comrades Kye Askins and Philip Johnstone. Written with my comrades in the Campaign Choirs Writing Collective - Gavin Brown, Jenny Patient and Lotte Reimer - Singing For Our Lives was published by HammerOn Press in 2108 . To work creatively with others is a big drive for me: co-writers, directors, actors, publishers, graphic artists, co-authors, editors... I'm trying to write more for performance, stage, screen and radio, including the odd song lyric, mainly for Cor Gobaith. If there's an artist out there (?) I'm particularly keen to work with someone on a graphic novel project, Exit Mr Green, a dystopian romp! Working with the 'amazingly talented' Kitty O'Blitherin on a fundraiser , Elsewhere On The Map for Medical Aid for Palestinians was a joy. A form I'm interested in pursuing is 'visionary drama', stimulating entertainment that's prefigurative and on the side of the oppressed of the world, including non-human nature. I'm also writing occasional activist journalism, contributing to Planet, Red Pepper, Open Democracy and Peace News. Academically, I persist with producing articles, chapters and interventions as creative resistance. This is mainly because of the great people I get to work with, not least my friend, the constantly inventive, deeply committed and always challenging Kye Askins. I would love to return to writing about community politics for a local news source, but that seems unlikely in the immediate term (sad face). My final aim is to make sufficient income to maybe prosper just a wee bit. Where I live, I could survive nicely on J K Rowling's loose change! If she happens to read this, for the price of a pint, I have a very special story (Bangkok Love Happy) that I'd love to share with her! Enjoy my site and please do contact me to read more, discuss collaboration etc. Photos on page headers are a selection of mine. I also have a YouTube channel with moving pictures and sound!
