Though I'm a published novelist and short story writer, I'm turning my attention more to writing for performance: stage, screen and radio. Specifically, my project is to develop a practice of 'visionary drama’, performance work that is prefigurative and on the side of the oppressed, including non-human nature. Particular influences in this regard are Augusto Boal’s ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’ and Adrienne Maree Brown’s conception of ‘visionary fiction’, which builds on the work of Octavia E Butler. In 2016 I'm training in Playback Theatre and researching that form. A major drive is the desire to work creatively with others - directors, actors, publishers, graphic artists, co-authors and audiences. Working in a participatory way in public space is another aim.
